The New World Symphony Project in Miami was designed by renowned architect FRANK GEHRY. The New world Symphony project features a variable seating (max. 700 seat) recording/webcast/performance space with 360 degree projection capability; a digital music library; 26 individual rehearsal rooms, six ensemble rehearsal rooms and a multi-purpose room, all outfitted with internet2 technology for long distance learning; artist suites; Fellow changing rooms; administrative offices and over 100 instrument lockers. The project will also include the addition of a two-acre public park and a 600-plus space public parking garage, both constructed by the City of Miami Beach, adjacent to the campus.

The project’s 2824 Tonnes of steel shop detailing for fabrication was commissioned to BDS VirCon. A 3D model was built by the architect GEHRY PARTNERS, LLP that includes all others disciplines to ensure accurate integration of all disciplines involved. That model was then passed on to BDS VirCon where it was imported into Tekla 3D modelling system to produce a 3D model where connections etc could be added. This meant the complex curved pipe elements of the project could be done with accuracy. The project required the creation of approx. 4638 assembly drawings & mark plans; 1096 wrap template drawings for the cutting of the complex curved element pipe ends; 7153 various fitting drawings and took 16 months to complete.

Gold Coast Convention Centre

The Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre located in Surfers Paradise, Australia is a multi-functional building. The building is approx. 190m long by 90m wide with approx. 1300 ton of primary steel and approximately 150 ton of light gauge secondary steel were used in its construction. The roof of the arena is made up of 22 trusses of varying heights to form the roof which curves in two directions. Above the trusses are numerous steel rakers which form the Eyebrow architectural feature. This feature uses a light gauge girt system at 600 centres to form the continuous conical curve. Due to the complex geometry, especially at the eyebrow, BDS were required to work closely with the Architect and through various file transfers developed the final working model.

Performing Arts Centre of Miami – Ballet Opera House

Performing Arts Centre of Miami – Ballet Opera House

The Performing Arts Centre of Greater Miami designed by world renowned Architect Cesar Pelli consists of a Ballet Opera House and Concert Hall. The 2,480 seat, 5,600 ton, Ballet Opera House detailed by BDS Vircon consisted of five different sectors centred about a main stage classic horseshoe-shape seating area. The roof structure was made up of 26 large framed trusses of various depths. At completion there were approximately 10,000 individual pieces detailed on this project. Due to the complex nature of this project BDS through its technical and modelling expertise also played a significant role in assisting with the final design development that eliminated many costly field conflicts

Phoenix Convention Centre Expansion Phase II

Phoenix Convention Centre Expansion Phase II

The 17,000 ton Phoenix Convention Centre expansion will triple its size. The convention centre is a multi level open space facility that required over five hundred 90’-0” long span trusses and five massive main roof trusses over 450’-0” long. This project required over 20,000 shop detail drawings to be produced during the 9 month detailing schedule.
